The unique Martha's Vineyard cottages
were developed between 1859 and 1864
at what is now known as Oak Bluffs. By
1880 there were over 500 of these simple
cottages. The style featured tongue and
groove siding, double doors on both floors,
two narrow side windows, and the little
pulpit balcony. The Romanesque style
had rounded tops on doors and windows.
The Gothic style featured pointed tops.
